Keep Kent Scenic Appreciates County Commissioners

Elizabeth Watson, a KKS board member, delivers a message of appreciation to the Kent County Commissioners for their ongoing support to prevent the Apex IWT project in Kent County.

Commissioners Pickrum, Short, and Fithian, I would like to thank you for your efforts to date to prevent the building of an industrial wind generation array in Kent County.

As a member of the board of Keep Kent Scenic, I am glad to be able to speak for a much larger community urgently taking many steps to keep Kent County and its hard-working landscape both rural and green in all ways.

I have just two points.

First, Senate Bill 938, which you all testified in support of at the Senate Finance Committee hearing last Tuesday, did not receive a vote by the time the General Assembly closed last night at midnight. But I want to take this opportunity to thank Senator Steve Hershey, who sponsored the bill and worked to get a strong committee hearing, and to thank all of you, plus many others, who took the time last week to testify. I believe that, taken as a whole, your testimony highlighted Kent County’s many special qualities and its determination to protect those qualities. It is clear that this county has earned the right to be heard in the decision-making process ahead of us, with generations of hard work to which you now are contributing.

Second is a question. That question is, what are the next steps the Commissioners are planning to take to protect our county?

I would ask that you take time to discuss and formulate a plan that can be expressed to the public. An agenda item at the next Commissioners’ meeting on the 21st of April to begin that discussion would be much appreciated.

There are many people who are not only supportive of your efforts but are also willing help where there is a role for citizen participation. Keep Kent Scenic would be pleased to support you.

Once again, thank you.
